No family adventure would be complete without a visit to Niagara Falls.
We have been here before. About 6 years ago we bought a ‘96 Roadmaster Station Wagon off eBay and it was in Rochester, NY. We drove out, picked up the wagon, and drove home stopping at the Falls on the way.
This time we ditched the trailer in a private campground in Lockport NY, and then backtracked the 20 miles or so to the Falls, coming in from the North. We stopped at a couple of downstream scenic views that we hadn’t seen on our last visit. We could see the mist from the Falls rising up over the road. At one of the stops a private tour group had just started and invited us to join in and walk along, so we did. The sunlight (such as it was with a slight drizzle coming down) was started to fade, however, and all the signs said these parks were only open dawn to dusk so we bid farewell to the tour group and continued to the Falls.
We found free parking just a block over from the $5 lot, and headed down in the continuing drizzle. We viewed the falls for a bit, and hoped to see the big lights come on as the day ended. We had gone halfway back to the truck when they came on. They were just white, though, so we weren’t sure of when the colored light shows are applied to the Falls.
What a beautiful picture - they have some nice color there already.
