On Thursday we made pretty good time around the Chicago area and entered the state of Michigan at dinner time. We decided to treat ourselves to a nice meal at a Cracker Barrel just south of Benton Harbor. Mike thought that after a good meal he could drive the remaining two hours to his parents’ Michigan house.
While we were eating, the previously clear sky became cloudy, the wind began gusting, and the lightning show became intense. Mike checked the weather forecast and found that a big storm with high winds would be plaguing the West Michigan coastline through the night. We decided to stay put for the night (luckily Cracker Barrel allows RVs to overnight) and decide what to do in the morning.
We awoke to find the storm had passed, but the gusting wind was still a problem. After much deliberation (and a cup of coffee), Mike decided he’d face the wind and finish our trek to his folks.
It was a tiring drive for Mike, and our gas mileage was pathetic. But, we made it to Grant, parked the trailer (we have full hook-ups here!), and said hello to the parents (we hadn’t seen them since February).
We’ll let you know if/when we figure it out.
