Day 19 of my 30 day blog series journaling my experiment with a Capsule Kitchen. The plan? Use 33 ingredients to create all our meals for three months. If you just joined me you can either start at Day 1 or view all Capsule Kitchen posts.
An unintentional result of doing the Capsule Kitchen experiment is we go out to eat less. I can’t use some of my normal “excuses” like..oh..darn..I’m missing ingredients for the dish I planned to make.
I also need to have planned-overs in the fridge because the kids’ have differing work schedules so we are not all eating at once.
Recently Mike and I attended an out of town business meeting. Following the meeting we caught a bite to eat. The menu offered some interesting dishes, but I found myself ordering their tacos.
This past week the four of us joined Mike’s family in celebrating Dad & Mom Boyink’s 54th Wedding Anniversary. We dined together at a buffet-style restaurant. There were tons of options to eat.
What did I mostly put on my plate? Foods that were similar to what we’ve been eating.
- Salad topped with egg, carrots, nuts and seeds
- Sweet potato
- Bacon (dipped in the dark chocolate fountain)
I figured that when we eat out I’d choose foods that were not on my list. But, that wasn’t the case this past week. Does that mean I’m in a rut? Or, have I wisely chosen my Capsule Kitchen list?
What’s On Your Plate?
When you eat out, do you find yourself choosing meals that resemble what you cook at home? Or do you select the most foreign of foods just to try them?
