How to Make Collectable Refrigerator Magnets (Video)

Do you collect anything as you travel?

We do.

We collect fridge magnets.

Except many of them don’t start as magnets.

And we can’t stick them on our fridge.

Making Collectable Magnets

Most fridge magnets sold in gift stores are too big. We prefer the size of hatpins & lapel pins instead.

Here’s a quick video showing how we make magnets:

Displaying Our Collection

5 years of travel means our collection got pretty big - currently we have 152 magnets to display.

Not only is our fridge-front not that big, it’s not even metal.

What to do?

Here are some photos of how we display our collection:

Our magnet collection is displayed on common 1.5

Our magnet collection is displayed on common 1.5" strap steel mounted to a wall in our living room.

I cut the steel to length, hit it with a wire wheel to give it some texture, then clear-coated it and screwed to the wall.

The collection takes up the entire wall where a TV would have been. Magnets attached to photo frames allows display of pictures mixed in with the magnets.

In our first rig I mounted sheet metal to the entryway cabinet to display our collection.

That’s a great idea!  I’m too much of a minimalist to collect anything other than photos,  but I like the idea of selling stuff like this on Etsy or Ebay.  I’ve been toying with a seashell idea I’ve had for a while.  While I’m still in Florida, I may as well take advantage of the endless supply.  Thanks and Enjoy your Wednesday!  :)

We collect fridge magnets as well. Right now we really don’t have much of any thing to put them on. My husband is still trying to figure out a way and a place to put them. Your idea is wonderful and I’m going to get him to watch this entire video of yours. You have done an amazing thing to your 5th wheel. I love what you have done. You all have safe travels and God Bless you all too.

    Thanks Lanelle!

The nice part about the strap steel is you can mount it just about anywhere. We had the big space from not having a TV, but if you do have a TV you can find other places to attach the steel to.
