Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier was a five-part TV show produced by Disney. The show featured tall tales surrounding Crockett.

Episode one (Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter): Davy attempts to negotiate a truce with Indians who have taken over a military post. At one point in the episode, Crockett kills a bear with only a knife.

Episode two (Davy Crockett Goes to Congress): After returning home to find his wife dead, Davy campaigns and wins a spot in the House of Representatives.

Episode three (Davy Crockett at the Alamo): Davy and his companion, George Russel, travel to Texas to fight for the Americans. While, in real life, Davy is killed along with everyone else, the TV show never showed Crockett’s death, leading to the next episodes.

Episode four (Davy Crockett’s Keelboat Race): Davy and a somehow alive Russel are fur trapping in Kentucky. While there, they meet Mike Fink, who challenges the duo to a race to New Orleans.

Episode five (Davy Crockett and the River Pirates): The two trappers pick up a wanderer, who turns out to be part of a river pirate gang. Crockett and Russel end up getting kidnapped by Indians.

The show exploded in popularity. Coonskin caps became the rage among young boys. Disney attempted to recreate the show’s success, but none of the subsequent outdoor heroic type shows came close to the popularity of Davy Crockett.
