Grand Canyon

Awesome. Epic. Humbling. Deceptive. Dangerous. Surreal. Controversial.

We spent a couple of days at the Grand Canyon and in that time saw just a minuscule percentage of it.  But our experience was that each of these words rung true.

Our first view of the canyon was at the Easter Sunrise Service (after getting up at 3:00 AM to get there in time).  The experience of having that awesome sight revealed in the context of the Cross as the sun came up was one I won’t soon forget.  To think that the God that created that wonder before our eyes was willing to accept our sins and die on the cross brought tears to my eyes as we sang.

Over the next couple of days we walked and biked more of the park’s south rim, ending our family time there by watching a sunset from one of the more easterly points.

It was time to move on, but we’re definitely leaving wanting to see more.  I’d absolutely love to see more either by hiking down or doing a rafting tour.  The bottom of the canyon looks like an other-worldly photographers dream.

Pretty amazing place. We were there 10 years ago and had the same desire as you…someday, I’ve got to walk to the bottom of that thing!

That was one of those places that you could just keep going back to again and again, and still be awed by it. The sunrise service was amazing. I will remember that for the rest of my life. I loved just looking down into the canyon, especially while biking along the rim.
