Marathon

Marathon is about half-way down the Florida Keys. The location seemed just right for day tripping to any other sites on the Keys, including Key West. The Jolly Roger RV Resort (not overly “resorty” but really clean with decent amenities) ended up being a good place to park for 5 nights (at the Passport America 1/2 price rate).

Our time in Marathon mostly consisted of grocery shopping. However, we did spend Sunday morning at Sombrero Beach. We had hoped to kayak the channel there, but the wind was too strong for the inflatable. So, the kids played catch with their new football (too windy for the Frisbee) and I sat and watched the water, boats, pelicans, and young kids playing in the sand. Around 11:00 the beach was getting busy and I was losing the palm-tree shade, so we packed it up and headed home.

Most evenings Mike and I walked down to the RV park’s water to watch the sun set. The scene really reminded us of sunsets over Lake Michigan. The main difference is that the temperature in the Keys was in the high 70s - 80s, and I’m sure the temperature along Lake Michigan isn’t quite that warm yet.
