Back in 2012 we got connected to some new friends on Twitter and traveled to meet them in person. This week we were able to close the whole loop by connecting back with the connectors - Matt Stauffer (and his family). Matt and I have been connected online for some time, both working in the tech field and using some common tools. But our only in-person meeting was a short one.
When Matt introduced us to Jeskes he was living in Chicago, but has since moved to Gainesville, Florida. We were moving through the area so after a few dozen Twitter direct messages to figure out schedules and locations we finally settled on a plan.
Gainesville is a bit short on campgrounds and RV parks close in, so Matt was able to line us up with an overnight spot at his church. We spent a quiet evening tucked back in the trees and Spanish Moss before meeting Matt and family the next day.
We had decided on a brunch, initially at a local park but the rain forced our hand. We parked the RV in front of Matt’s place and settled in for a couple hours.
Matt is a bass player and so Harrison was able to plug his new bass guitar into an amp for the first time. Matt gave him an impromptu bass lesson going through the controls on the guitar and explaining how to find the best tone.
Miranda had a dog to play with so she was content as well.
Brunch was filling, conversation was light-hearted and easy, and it was time to go all too soon.
We’ll definitely stop by again if we’re in the area!
