Camp Hosting at Usery Mountain Regional Park Again

“Hey, can you guys stop up at the office today”?

MsBoyink heard these words from the Park Supervisor just over a week ago. We had wrapped up our main camp-hosting engagement and had been demoted to Regular Campers (Level Two, with privileges). We had booked a campsite in the park for a month with plans for MsBoyink to volunteer a few hours in return for laundry, ice, tool access etc.

We were headed out anyway so swung into the Nature Center and learned that one of the full-season camp hosts had to leave, so the park was again short one host couple. The gap would put a strain on the remaining hosts and they were unlikely to find someone on short notice (plus then they would have to train that newcomer). We told the supervisor we would think it over, but based on the conversation and the flexibility we were offered we moved into the open camp-hosting site the next day (yay for full hookups again!).

We’ve only committed through the end of February - now the decision is do we come back after we do our planned training class in Southern California?  That’s still up in the air but MsBoyink is also dealing with cataract on one eye that is getting bad enough to require action, so any planned surgeries might have us coming back to this area. There is also the possibility of some private training coming up in March which would require me to fly out for 1-2 weeks, and it might be easiest to plug the family back in here again during that time. We’ll see.

It was nice to hear multiple comments from park staff and hosts coaxing us to stay - and we think it’s more than just not wanting to work more hours..;)

Just another moment where we think we have the plan worked out things change!

Yes, ICE under our spigot. We had a cold spell.

Again taking advantage of cheap fruit and vegges. This is $32 worth.
