We’ve wrapped up our second summer season in Fremont, MI.
We try to not repeat experiences. We spent last summer in Fremont, MI, why do it again?
We had a tough winter this past year - client work fell off for a couple of months. I thought it was just me - but as I talk with my peers in the industry it sounds like many folks had a tough season. We needed a cost-effective place to stay for a while.
We haven’t found another spot where a nice campground is so close to town. The kids could each bike to the responsibilities that took them out of the park. Walmart was only a couple miles away, and a local grocery store was within walking distance.
Many of the seasonal campers at Fremont have been coming there for decades. There is a tight community but they are still welcoming of “newbies”.
Do It For the Children
Harrison wanted to work a summer job in order to build up his personal ‘launch fund’. He actually worked two - umping the local Little League again and working at the local Subway.
The latter was a bonus to our food budget as he mostly ate subs all summer. Coming home with 50 cookies whenever he closed didn’t help our waistlines out though….
Miranda lined herself up an internship at the local Humane Society. She learned a lot - both about working with animals and working with people.
A Summer of Screens
MsBoyink and I spent more of the summer staring at screens than we’d prefer, but made progress towards getting the ‘cruising kitty’ in better shape, getting this website on firmer ground, and getting a better platform in place for the book we are working on.
